Introduction
This release of WorldCat Discovery includes the following enhancements as well as bug fixes:
- Deep link into WorldCat Entities for authors from the item details page
- Find more popular works in search results
New features and enhancements
Deep link into WorldCat Entities for authors from the item details page
With this release, users can now view a WorldCat Entity field within the descriptive bibliographic data of the item details page for records that have author entities URI data available.
Within the field, the text “View on WorldCat Entities” is displayed above the authors’ names. Each author’s name is a link that uses the WorldCat Entities URI from subfield $1 of MARC fields 100/110/700/710. When clicked, this opens a new browser tab and takes the user to the corresponding WorldCat Entities page for that author.
Staff users may sign in to OCLC Meridian® from the WorldCat Entities sign in prompt.
You may configure the position of the WorldCat Entity field within the descriptive bibliographic data on your item details page via OCLC Service Configuration > WorldCat Discovery and WorldCat Local > Item Detail Settings > Reorder data fields. By default, the WorldCat Entity field is included in the ’Demote from View’ category for all libraries, meaning that users must choose to expand the ‘More Item Details’ section of the item details page to view it. You may choose to move the field to ‘Promote to View’ as well as to configure its position in the order of fields.
Find more popular works in search results
With this release, users can more easily find classic and popular works. When Search Results Display is set to Group editions and formats, WorldCat Discovery now measures the popularity of a work using the total number of worldwide library holdings for all editions and formats of the work. This boosts the relevance score of popular works when users rank their search results using the Best Match, Library, or Recency algorithms. Previously only the worldwide library holdings of the individual representative record for a group of editions and formats were used.
This improved popularity boost is particularly beneficial when users have scoped their search to libraries worldwide and are looking for a popular work that your library or group does not hold. It is also effective when your library or group holds a relatively unpopular edition of a popular work.
New Content
This is a list of new databases added to WorldCat Discovery and WorldCat.org since our last update.
You can enable these databases as search options in the Licensed Content and Databases module of OCLC Service Configuration. Please remember that your library must have a valid subscription to these databases in order to enable them.

The eLibrary hosts ebooks as well as journals.

Include Request ID with problem reports
When reporting an issue with WorldCat Discovery, it is extremely helpful to include the Request ID. The Request ID is found at the bottom of the screen on which the issue occurred. Including this information allows us to directly trace what happened on the request we are troubleshooting.
