Access Options Text

Customize the Access Options text in the fulfillment panel in the modernized WorldCat Discovery interface. Choose a display label of up to 25 characters to fit the needs of your institution. If you do not wish to configure custom text, the default text Access Options will display in the fulfillment panel on your WorldCat Discovery site. 

To use custom text for the fulfillment panel:

1. Enable the Use custom text setting.
2. Enter the Display Text.
   • 35 character limit.
3. Optional. Add Translation for the Display Text.
   1. Select the desired language from the drop-down.
   2. Add Custom Text to display when the user has selected this language in the WorldCat Discovery interface.
4. Click Save.

Availability Detail Sort Options

 Note: Available for WMS libraries and WorldCat Discovery Premium libraries.

Configure a default sort order within the availability information for each branch or holding location on the item details page. Using the Default sort option for availability detail display drop-down, select from the below sort options:

• Call number ascending
• Call number descending
• Shelving location ascending
• Shelving location descending
• Status ascending
• Status descending

Configure the default sort order within the availability information for single-part, multipart, and serial holdings in your branches and holding locations. Select from the below sort options:

Call number and Shelving location sorts are alphanumeric:

• Ascending: 0 to 9, A to Z
• Descending: Z to A, 9 to 0

Status sorts depend on the item status:

• Ascending: Items with statuses treated as Available are listed first, sorted alphanumerically, followed by items with statuses treated as Unavailable, sorted alphanumerically. 
• Descending: Items with statuses treated as Unavailable are listed first, sorted alphanumerically, followed by items with statuses treated as Available, sorted alphanumerically.

Reorder Data Fields

Customize how WorldCat data and LBD is displayed in the modernized WorldCat Discovery interface.

Drag and drop items to move fields between Promote to View and Demote from View.

• Promote to View fields always display in the item description.
• Demote from View fields display after the user indicates interest to see content.

Drag and drop the fields in their respective columns to reorder the field display in a way that is most appropriate for your users and your institution. Fields at the top of the column will display first.

 Note: Fields that contain search terms will automatically be promoted in order for users to see where they were found.

Each data value has additional label options to change the display in WorldCat Discovery. If you have other suggestions for these fields, contact OCLC Support.

For select fields, determine whether to Display local bib data before WorldCat record data in the item detail record and determine which LBD fields to display.

 Note: Use the Reset to recommended defaults button to discard all item details configurations and begin your configuration from the initial settings.

Browse options

WorldCat Discovery Premium, WMS, and group catalog users can use the Browse options settings to navigate hierarchically related records in WorldCat Discovery. 

Relationships in the MARC 773, 800, 810, 811, and 830 fields cataloged using a valid OCLC Control Number (OCN) in the control $w are used to determine hierarchically related records. 

To enable this feature, select to Display bibliographic relationship(s) and click Save. 

These relationships are displayed by default on the item detail page in the Browse related items tab. Refer to Fulfillment and discovery options for additional information.

Three possible relationships appear when they exist:

1. In: An item is part of another item. Selecting the titles in this view will bring the user to the item details page. 
   • Example: a volume (part) of an encyclopedia (whole). 
2. Contains: An item contains something else. Selecting these relationships will bring users to a modified search results view of items contained by the title.
   • Example: an archival collection (whole) contains items (parts).  
3. Grouped with: Multiple items are part of the same whole. Selecting these relationships brings the user to a modified search results view of all the related items. 
   • As in the previous example, where items that are parts of the same archival collection would fall under the grouped with relationship.  

The following categories of materials and relationships are included within this feature:

• Volumes within a multipart work: encyclopedia, dictionary, etc.
• Titles in a monographic series
• Chapters within a book
  • Chapter records within central index databases from content partners are out of scope for this feature.
• Compositions or tracks within a musical score or recording
• Images within an album or collection
• Physical materials (e.g. pamphlets) published separately but later bound together by a library

 Note: The following relationships are out of scope for this feature: chapters in books within central index databases from content partners and articles in journals. All other formats will display relationships where they exist.
