Query parameters

Learn about the available parameters for Query Builder in GreenGlass.

Query parameters

Find the parameter options and their descriptions below.

Note: Not all projects will include every option below and is dependent on what was included when the project was set up.

Subjects

Choose the subject(s) to include:

  • All subjects
  • Specific LC classes
  • Specific dewey ranges

Select LC or Dewey classes and subclasses.

Projects processed after September 2018 will allow you to select one or more numeric ranges within a given LC or Dewey subclass (e.g., DA 757.9 - 826 Scottish History).

Call Numbers

A Call Number search feature allows you to search for non-standard patterns and character strings in your call numbers (e.g. “oversize”, “folio”). This feature can be used to query for non-LC and non-Dewey classification marks. Options include:

  • No restriction
  • Starts with
  • Includes
  • Ends with

Use the Additional Call Number option to add additional criteria.

Ubicaciones

GreenGlass supports two levels of location-related data elements, referred to as Collection and Location Codes. They may be labeled differently in your system, but include both if needed to locate items in your library.

The higher-level code is referred to as the Collection Code and the more granular, lower-level code is referred to as the Location Code. Include both when location codes in various parts of the collection are not distinct, meaning it would be difficult to locate a physical item without both codes. If you would like to include both Collection Code and Location Code, instruct that they both should be included at the outset of the project.

An example use case for both Collection Code and Location Code would be if an institution has four separate libraries on campus. Each library would have a specific Collection Code in GreenGlass. More granular Location Codes would then be used to describe locations within each separate library.

Publication and Acquisition Dates

Select whether to include items published or acquired in the specified Publication year or Added to collection timeframe.

WorldCat Holdings

  • Under Edition Matching
    • Choose same edition to count holdings for the exact edition (holdings set on the same OCLC record number as yours).
    • Choose any edition to count holdings for related editions as established by OCLC's implementation of work families.

       Note:

      • US/CA and State/Province holdings include your library's holding.
      • Comparator Library tallies do not include your library's holding. Comparator Libraries were defined at the outset of your project. Contact your GreenGlass liaison or your local project manager for details.
      • All Comparator Libraries combine all of your library's comparators into a single tally. Where comparator groups overlap (the same library appears in more than one group) they will only be counted once here.

Group-level attributes

If your library is a member of a group project, you will be able to query on GROUP LEVEL ATTRIBUTES such as group overlap, aggregate uses, and whether titles are allocated for retention.

HathiTrust

Include or exclude titles based on their HathiTrust status. Some titles in HathiTrust are in the public domain while others are still in copyright. Options include:

  • No restriction
  • HathiTrust
  • HathiTrust - copyright ONLY
  • HathiTrust - public domain ONLY
  • NOT in HathiTrust - public domain
  • NOT in HathiTrust

In item Lists, a URL to the appropriate HathiTrust record is provided and can be batch loaded to the local OPAC.

In item lists, Hathi Public Domain and In-Copyright flags appear in the detail pane. The Query Builder includes HathiTrust selections on the left panel.

On the GreenGlass Collection, Visualize page, use the HathiTrust Overlay to see how many of your items are in the Hathi corpus. The matches are shown in green with Public Domain titles represented by bright green tips.

For more information about HathiTrust Matches and URLs, watch the tutorial: Understanding HathiTrust Matches and URLs (2:37).

Hathi in Copyright

Is this title in HathiTrust Digital Library - In Copyright?

  • GreenGlassuses identifies HathiTrust matches by seeing if the OCLC Number matches a Hathi Bib Record or if an 019 related to the WorldCat OCLC Number matches a HathiTrust bibliographic record.
  • To determine if the item is in the HathiTrust In-Copyright, GreenGlass looks to see if the HathiTrust rights code is 'ic' (in-copyright).

Hathi Public Domain

Is this title in HathiTrust Digital Library - Public Domain?

  • GreenGlassuses identifies HathiTrust matches by seeing if the OCLC Number matches a Hathi Bib Record or if an 019 related to the WorldCat OCLC Number matches a HathiTrust bibliographic record.
  • To determine if the item is in the HathiTrust Public Domain, GreenGlass looks to see if the HathiTrust rights code is one of the following:
    • 'pd' (public domain)
    • 'pdus' (public domain only when viewed in the US)
    • 'ic-world' (in copyright and permitted as world viewable by the copyright holder)
    • Begins with 'cc' (Creative Commons).

Note: For non-US libraries, the Hathi Public Domain definition is adjusted to exclude the 'pdus' status.

Hathi in Copyright

Is this title in HathiTrust Digital Library - In Copyright? No or Yes.

  • GreenGlass uses the following logic to identify Hathi Matches: The WorldCat OCLC Number matches a Hathi Bib Record or an 019 related to the WorldCat OCLC Number matches a Hathi bib record.
  • The GreenGlass criteria for Hathi In-Copyright: The Hathi rights code is 'ic' (in-copyright). For more information about HathiTrust Matches and URLs, watch the tutorial: Understanding HathiTrust Matches and URLs (2:37).

Combine Queries

At the bottom of the left panel, users have the option to combine the on-screen query with one or more queries that have been built and saved previously.

The Query Builder employs AND logic between all parameters. Occasionally, multiple GreenGlass queries are necessary to use the Combine Queries feature to establish OR logic so that all items can be included in the results.

Options include:

  • Click the Combine results with other queries radio button for an OR query.
    • This includes all items that match the parameters of either query.
  • Click the Intersect results with other queries radio button for an AND query.
    • This includes items that match the parameters of both queries.

To combine two or more lists:

  1. Open one of the lists in the Query Builder.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the left panel, click on the COMBINE radio button.
  3. All other saved queries appear.
  4. Check the query or queries you wish to combine.
  5. A final parameter is added to your query.

Combined queries can be saved and exported.

Special Category

If your library defined a special category, you have the option to include or exclude those titles from your query results. To see your Special Category Rules, click on the green question mark.

CHOICE

If your library chose to include CHOICE matches, you will see an option to set query criteria based on whether the title has been reviewed in CHOICE and whether it was named a CHOICE Outstanding Academic Title.
