Why do I get an "Unrecognized IP" message when using WorldCat Search API?
Symptom
- When submitting a request using the WorldCat Search API, you receive the response "Unrecognized IP"
Applies to
- WorldCat Search API v1
Resolution
The API cannot return holdings in order of nearness if it does not recognize the client application's IP address. If the current application IP address is not recognized, the system cannot map the IP address the requests are coming from to a known geographic location. Without a known geographic location it is not possible to sort the holding response by geographic proximity. To resolve this issue either:
- Explicitly provide a geographic location parameter such as zip code
- Use an IP address which is known to the OCLC infrastructure
