More Bibliographic Fields that May Be Added to or Edited in Non-CONSER PCC Records

You may now add if the field is not present and either add or modify if the field is present any of the following Bibliographic fields to any WorldCat record, including all non-CONSER PCC records: These changes are subject to occasional exceptions that are noted in Bibliographic Formats and Standards Chapter 5, Quality Assurance, Section 5.2. Member Capabilities, under the heading “Enriching PCC Records.”

The full list of fields that catalogers with the requisite replace capabilities may add to or edit in WorldCat Bibliographic records, including non-CONSER PCC records, may be found in Bibliographic Formats and Standards Chapter 5, Quality Assurance, Section 5.2. Member Capabilities, under the heading “Enriching PCC Records.”

New LC Practice for LCCN Spacing in Subject Authority Field 670 Subfield $w

You will begin to see Library of Congress Control Numbers (LCCNs) in Authority field 670 subfield $w without spaces in subject authority records starting later this year. This accommodates the newly revised LC practice for citing LCCNs in Authority 670 subfield $w rather than subfield $a. Unlike most other subfields $w that contain LCCNs, the standard LCCN spacing conventions will not always be used in records that represent headings from Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) and Library of Congress Genre/Form Terms for Library and Archival Materials (LCGFT). Two spaces may be included but are no longer necessary to separate the closing parenthesis of “(DLC)” from the first digit of the LCCN.

Bug fixes

Addition of RDA Carrier Types

You may now use two RDA Carrier Types that had been inadvertently omitted from validation: “audio wire reel,” “sound-track reel,” and their equivalents in other languages in the Bibliographic and Holdings field 338 (Carrier Type) subfield $a (Carrier Type Term), as well as the corresponding codes “sw” (for audio wire reel) and “si” (for sound-track reel) in subfield $b (Carrier Type Code). Previously, these terms and codes had not been valid in field 338.

Correction of Repeatability for Authority 5XX Fields Subfield $i

You may now include only one subfield $i (Relationship Information) in Authority fields 500, 510, 511, 530, and 551 for LC Names records. This is in keeping with the PCC Guidelines for the Application of Relationship Designators in NACO Authority Records. Previously, the subfield had been incorrectly implemented as repeatable in those instances.

Correction of Validation Check for Subfield $0

In both Bibliographic and Authority fields where subfield $0 may appear alone, you may now add multiple subfields $0 with differing contents without WorldCat reporting them as duplicate fields. Previously, subfield $0 was not considered when WorldCat validation checked for duplicate fields.
