"Transaction failed. Your host connection may have been lost" error in Connexion client

Symptom
  • When attempting to log in or search Connexion client with valid credentials, you receive the message "Transaction failed. Your host connection may have been lost."
Applies to
  • Connexion client
Resolution

This is a general error that appears when Connexion fails to connect to our databases. This can happen either due to local circumstances or due to server issues occurring at the time.

First, check our system dashboard to confirm if this is due to an outage.

Connexion client 2.63

  • Click Tools > Options > Access tab.  Under Internet Access ensure that OCLC Default is selected.
  • On the same tab verify that Persistent Connection checkbox is not checked.
  • Ask your IT staff to safe list oclc.org in any anti-virus programs that are running on your local machine.

Connexion client 3.1

  • Use IP address to bypass DNS and access the host directly: Click Tools > Options > Access tab. Under Internet Access, select Other URL and enter http://132.174.0.2
  • On the same tab verify that Persistent Connection checkbox is not checked.
  • If the above doesn't work, it's possible that the uninstall of the earlier version of Connexion did not clear out the Program Files (x86) folder. To resolve, do a complete uninstall of Connexion and the Connexion ComService, delete the OCLC folder from any Program Files (x86) or Program Files folders on the machine, then reinstall as administrator for everyone.
