Some items are missing their barcodes in the Circulation Item Inventories report

Symptom
  • After importing the Circulation Item Inventories report into Microsoft Excel, the barcode fields for some items are blank.

Resolution

This is likely because the barcodes follow a different pattern than the rest of the barcodes. For example, if the majority of your barcodes are numeric, but a few have alphabetic characters, then the ones with letters may not show up in the report.

This is an issue with how the data was imported into Excel. The report is in .txt format. When importing the .txt file into an Excel spreadsheet, note the Data type detection option. If you choose Based on first 200 rows and the first 200 rows of barcodes are numeric, then the column will be set to numeric and any barcodes with alpha characters will not load.

Instead, make sure the Data type detection option is set to either Based on entire data set or Do not detect data types. Note that if you choose Based on entire data set, it may take a while for the data to be imported.
