Include price and volume fields with MARC import

Learn how to include price and volume fields with MARC import in Amlib.

It is possible to populate the volume and price fields in the Stockitem during the Marc Import process.

  1. In Amlib navigate to Main > Authorities > Authorities
  2. Select Application > MarcItemDefs
  3. Click on the Import Items tab
  4. In the Description column, locate the Price field
  5. In the Tag No column nominate the Marc tag from the incoming records which contains price. In the Subfield column type the subfield that contains the price. It is important that this tag is defined in Amlib (outlined in Appendix A - Checking the Marc Tags in Amlib). If you are not sure which tag the Price or Volume is contained in, see Appendix B - Price and Volume tags
  6. In the Tag No column nominate the Marc tag from the incoming records which contains volume. In the Subfield column type the subfield that contains the volume
  7. If you are importing Barcode information, also ensure that this tag is set up in the same way, otherwise the system will generate a barcode
  8. Once you have entered the correct Marc tags from the incoming Marc file into the Price and Volume fields, then F3 Update
  9. Log out of the Authority module
  10. Import your Marc file as usual

Check the Marc Tags in Amlib

  1. In Amlib navigate to Main > Authorities > MarcTags
  2. Locate the incoming item tag- for example 945. If the tag does not exist, select F1 New to create the tag
  3. Highlight the tag and select F7 SubF
  4. Ensure that the correct subfields are entered, particularly price and volume as otherwise they will not import

Price and Volume Tags

  1. In Amlib navigate to Main > Authorities > MarcTakeUp
  2. Begin the MarcTakeUp
  3. On the Marc Import Screen ensure the Open and Update option is NOT ticked and select OK
  4. Continue the Marc Take Up as usual, pausing on the Update screen. On this screen you can see which tags and subfields price and volume (and if imported, the barcode) are in
